A mother who decided to tumble dry her fluffy eBay rug has revealed how she ended up with a sand-like substance all over the dryer when her efforts went drastically wrong.

Natasha Siobhan took to the British Facebook group Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It to display the results of her comical attempt to dry her grey fluffy floor covering.

To make matters worse, the door had flown off its hinges and the rug turned out ‘slightly shrunk’.

When social media users questioned why she’d tumble dried the rug in the first place, Natasha insisted she’d done it before without any problems.

The social media user shared a picture of the rug on social media alongside the caption: ‘When you tumble dry the eBay rug.’

Natasha, who reassured social media users that her dryer had now been restored, continued: ‘It’s fabric back. It’s funny. It’s not sand. Yes I’m a moron clearly.

‘I don’t know why the door fell off, the dryer is ancient it does it sometimes. It’s back to its old faithful self and all hoovered out.’

After sharing a snap of the rug, Natasha explained to social media users that what appeared to be sand in the picture was in fact ‘beige fluff’ which had come from the rug.

She said: ‘Firstly I dried it in the dryer…to dry it. Secondly it’s from China- I can’t read Chinese. Third it was fine last time.

‘After my washing machine breaking last month this had been in it..washed a good few times. It’s fine on floor now, all flat just slightly shrunk.

‘I thought it was sand too but it seems to be beige fluff. God knows what. I’m just glad it didn’t set the house on fire.’

The mother later shared a picture of her now flat rug which looked slightly worse for wear but was still intact following the mishap.

Following the comical post, social media users shared their thoughts on the unfortunate event, with one claiming they could not stop laughing.

One user wrote: ‘Sorry this is so funny I literally can’t stop laughing…how did the door come off.’

While another commented: ‘I once tumbled dried a rug because it started to rain after I’d washed it…and I learnt a very good lesson that day. My rug practically melted everywhere in the tumble…we live and we learn.’

Another asked: ‘Why on earth would you tumble dry a rug?’

And another said: ‘I put mine on a quick wash 25 degrees then hung it on the line and brushed it. Came out lovely but I would never tumble dry it!’

Elsewhere, another social media user suggested the sand-like substance was rug backing which had dried and crumbed.

They wrote: ‘Looks like the rug backing has overdried and crumbled. It does look like sand when this happens.’
