Karl Stefanovic accuses husky-voiced Miley Cyrus of ‘smoking too many darts’ during a live interview on the Today show – leaving his colleagues speechless
Karl Stefanovic has ridiculed American pop-star Miley Cyrus’ husky voice in an astonishing spray on the Today show.
During Tuesday’s episode, Karl, 45, left his co-stars speechless by joking that the songstress, 27, sounded like she’s been smoking too many ‘darts’ (a colloquial term for cigarettes).
Karl made his comments after watching an interview with Miley conducted by Today’s entertainment reporter Brooke Boney.
After the footage played, Brooke revealed to Karl and his co-star Allison Langdon that Miley was actually the reason why her boyfriend Cody Simpson was late for his own Today show interview last week.
‘Could have been the fact she was having 100 darts!’ Karl interjected, pretending to puff on an invisible cigarette.
Impersonating Miley, Karl said in a raspy voice: ‘I’ll see you guys in Australia!’

The studio was filled with awkward laughter from Karl’s co-stars, with Broke replying: ‘no comment, no comment… nothing to do with me!’
‘Stop it!’ Allison laughed.
However, Karl couldn’t help but take another dig, remarking: ‘She sounds like one of The Simpson ladies. What are their names? Thelma?’

‘Selma and Patty,’ Brooke said flatly, to which Karl replied: ‘Yeah, that’s it!’.
Karl’s jokes come as a surprise, given that he is good friends with Miley’s boyfriend Cody Simpson.
The two men even work out at the gym together when they’re both in Sydney.

Cody made an appearance on the Today show last Tuesday.
Like Miley, the 23-year-old singer was also subjected to some gentle ribbing from Karl.
Cody, who was speaking live via satellite from Hollywood, has a slight Californian twang after a decade living in the United States.
And Karl wasn’t about to let Cody off the hook, telling him know it was ‘outrageous’ that a Gold Coast boy should lose his native accent.
Karl cheekily said: ‘It’s outrageous! It’s un-Australian, Cody!’
