Pensioner, 93, is left badly bruised after ‘cowardly’ masked burglar clamped a hand round her mouth to stop her screaming during shocking raid on her home in the middle of the night

  • The 93-year-old woman was attacked while she slept in shocking raid for cash

A terrified 93-year-old woman was left injured by burglars after they raided her home in the early hours of Wednesday morning. 

One of the masked yobs put their hand over the frail pensioner’s mouth to stop her screaming after waking her up in the middle of the night. 

A police chief constable has branded thugs who attacked the frail 93-year-old woman as ‘scum’ and detectives have launched an appeal to find the criminals responsible.

The police have urged people to ignore ‘no-grass culture nonsense’ and report any information or footage related to who carried out the attack.

Chief Constable Andy Cooke, of Merseyside Police, said: This is horrendous. Please help us catch the scum who did this.

‘And don’t give me any of that no grass culture nonsense.

‘This is a 93 year old woman in her own house who should be afforded respect and dignity. Someone knows who did this.’

Police have also released photographs of bruising to the victim’s face caused by masked offenders who struck at the property in Herm Road, Vauxhall, Liverpool at about 2.25am on Wednesday.  

Police said the unnamed woman was ‘badly shaken’ and taken to hospital suffering from shock and facial injuries.  

A quantity of cash was taken from the house. 

An investigation is under way and house-to-house, forensic and CCTV inquiries are being carried out in the local area though no arrests have been made yet.

Detective Sergeant Richie Shillito added: ‘Everyone has the right to feel safe and secure in their own homes.

‘This was a particularly cowardly and despicable incident involving an elderly lady who was left badly shaken and with visible injuries.

‘I know that members of the public will be shocked by what has taken place, and I would appeal for their help in finding out who is responsible and bringing them to justice.

‘Did you capture anything significant on your car’s dash-cam or CCTV camera?

‘Please come forward and speak to us so that we can take positive action.
