The Batman director, Matt Reeves, tweeted the first look of Robert Pattinson’s new crime-fighting costume and a peek at the updated Batmobile.

Reeves shared a total of three images to Twitter on Wednesday morning using #TheBatman hashtag alongside a bat and car emoji.

The updated vehicle appears to be a souped-up muscle car, a contrast to the usual more eccentric designs expected from the franchise.

In one image, Batman stands alongside his ride in a dusty warehouse with headlights providing a clear view. 

The new wheels appear to be a vintage make with a classic grill similar to an old-school Chevy Camaro or a Dodge Charger with a hatchback roof.

An exposed engine is positioned in the back of the vehicle with three horizontal red brake lights on each side.

A glimpse of Pattinson’s costume shows a long black cape to match a face mask with pointy ears.

The Caped Crusader also appears to have indented abdominal muscles in the rubber costume, with silver cuffs on each arm.

Pattinson was cast as the superhero in late May after Reeves debated between the Twilight star or Nicholas Hoult.

The 33-year-old English actor was worried about losing the role before he was even offered a part. 

Speaking to Time Out magazine, he said: ‘I hadn’t even done the audition. It’s just nerve-wracking because I was really excited about it and you think: really, is this how I’m going to lose this role? It’s the most annoying circumstances to lose something.’  

Pattinson apologized for riling Batman fans, after he previously said the character isn’t really a hero because he doesn’t have any actual superpowers.

‘I wasn’t educated about the subject,’ he said. ‘People got very angry about it. It’s bizarre. I still can’t understand the argument.’
