Genesis stars Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford are seen for FIRST TIME since reunion

Genesis stars Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford posed up at BBC Radio 2 on Wednesday as they were seen for the first time since announcing their reunion tour.

The iconic musicians, all 69, looked delighted as they posed with host Zoe Ball ahead of their first interview since reuniting as a trio – as it was revealed Phil’s son Nick will play the drums on the tour after his back surgery prevented him from doing so.

Easy Lover hitmaker Phil leaned on a walking stick as he arrived at the studios, after multiple back surgeries left him struggling to stand.

Two years later, he stepped back from performing due to crippling nerve damage, which rendered him unable to play the drums, before returning in 2015.

Some of his recent solo shows saw the In The Air Tonight hitmaker perform from a chair.

The legendary singer confirmed that his teenage son, 18, will play the drums for the majority of the show, although he is hoping to help him out where he can

He told Zoe of his son stepping in his shoes: ‘I mean, for me it wasn’t a deal breaker but it was something that was working and it was a problem that we had to overcome.

‘I am going to be doing my best to play some bits on the tour. So I’ve got to start seriously thinking, I have been working at what I’ve got to do and what songs to play.’

Speaking of his bandmates joining him at his solo shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2017, he continued: ‘Tony and Mike both came to the shows at the Albert Hall and he understood what was needed.

‘He plays a bit like me when he wants to, he doesn’t when he doesn’t want to.

‘I am one of his many influences, he plays like me and kind of has the same attitude as me – so that was a good starter.’

Mike added that it’s ‘great’ having a ‘family’ member in the band and that now feels like the best time to make a comeback.

He said: ‘Nick is family too, which is important, it feels great. It feels the right time. We have done two shows in the UK in the last 28 years, so we haven’t overworked it.’

Original member Peter Gabriel, 70, is not due to join the trio for this set of shows, and neither will guitarist Steve Hackett , 70, who was in the band from 1971-1977.

The run kicks off at Dublin’s 3Arena in Ireland on November 16, includes two nights at The O2 in London on November 29 and November 30, and wraps on December 11 at Glasgow SSE Arena

The band was originally comprised of singer Peter, Tony, guitarist Anthony Phillips, Mike, and drummer Chris Stewart.

They released their debut LP – From Genesis To Revelation in 1969 – with John Silver replacing Chris on drums and percussion.

By the time of second album Trespass in 1970, John Mayhew was the drummer.

In 1970 Phil became the drummer and provided backing vocals before taking over lead vocals in 1975.

Mick Barnard also enjoyed a one-year stint in the band on guitar from 1970-71.

Since the band’s debut, they have gone on to sell more than 100 million records – securing 21 UK Top 40 hits and six Number One albums.

They last performed together in 2007 to mark their 40th anniversary and had been in two minds about reuniting due to Phil’s medical issues.

Mike had previously given hope that the band could reform in the future. He said last year: ‘I’ve always said, for years, never say never and we did the tour 10 years ago…

‘Who knows? Phil (Collins) is in good shape now out touring, his son (Nic) is drumming – fantastic drummer. Never say never.’

Tickets for the tour go on sale on March 6 at 9am.

The band first confirmed news of their reunion on Instagram on Monday.

On Tuesday Genesis’ official Instagram account posted a throwback snap of the band with the caption: ‘And then there were three.’

The band sparked reunion rumours when they were reportedly spotted watching the basketball together in New York City in January.

According to Rolling Stone, a Genesis fan site shared snaps of Phil, Mike and Tony together at a match to watch the New York Knicks.

Phil’s involvement also comes after he admitted he wouldn’t be able to drum for the band should they decide to reunite, insisting his son Nicholas would have to play in his place.

He told Rolling Stone: ‘I’m saying this to you… I haven’t really said it to Tony and Mike did mention to Tony very quietly if we did anything again it would be with Nic on drums. He kind of didn’t say no. But I’m not sure if he heard me or not.’
