A mesmerising hyper-lapse video offers a sneak peek inside – and outside – a brand new $1billion (£733million) cruise ship.

The ship, Celebrity Apex, is near to completion at the Chantier de l’Atlantique shipyard in France and is due to make its official debut in March.

Celebrity Cruises promises that the vessel will ‘take modern cruising to the next level’.

And the short clip gives a taster of what passengers will experience.

At the start of the video workers in hard hats can be seen putting the finishing touches to the interiors as well as the deck area, called the Retreat, and the rooftop garden.

There is also a glimpse of the ship’s spa, gym and solarium as well as its vast grand plaza and the swanky Eden bar.

The video shows several of vessel’s rooms and suites before revealing the ‘magic carpet’ – a cantilevered floating platform that glides up and down the exterior.

Celebrity Apex, which will be able to carry 2,910 passengers, is the second ship in Celebrity Cruises’ Edge series and will be the first Celebrity Cruises vessel to be launched in the UK in over a decade.

It will be christened on March 30 in Southampton and its godmother will be Reshma Saujani, founder and CEO of international non-profit Girls Who Code and author of the international bestseller, Brave, Not Perfect.

There will also be a 10-night capital cities cruise with an itinerary that includes Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Oslo and Paris.

After Celebrity Apex’s northern Europe mini-season, the ship will spend the rest of its inaugural summer sailing seven to 12-night itineraries in the Mediterranean to the likes of Lisbon, Istanbul, Monte Carlo and Cannes.

The ship will reposition to Fort Lauderdale in November for a winter season of week-long Caribbean sailings.
