David Beckham endured some jeering from LAFC fans as he sat by himself in the stands as he watched his Inter Miami side suffer an opening day MLS defeat.

The former footballer, 44, was in the stands at the the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles for the match which finished with a score of 1-0 for LAFC.

As he took his seat in the empty director’s box ahead of the game, Los Angeles fans chanted ‘you look lonely’ at David as he sat by himself.

Poking fun: David Beckham, 44, endured some jeering from LAFC fans as he sat by himself in the stands as he watched his Inter Miami side suffer an opening day MLS defeat

However, the former England captain took the chant in good humour as he laughed and shrugged.

David later had company in the box as he was joined by his wife Victoria, 45, and their eldest son Brooklyn, who turns 21 this week.

The family also hung out with some of their celebrity pals including Gordon and Tana Ramsay, Liv Tyler and her husband and David’s best pal Dave Gardner and actress Eva Longoria.

300 fans from South Florida made the 4,000 mile journey to Los Angeles for the game to support Inter Miami.

Six years have passed since the former Manchester United midfielder announced he would exercise an agreement with former club Los Angeles Galaxy to develop his own soccer franchise at a cost of $25million (£19.5m).

David, who shares Brooklyn, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15, and Harper, eight, with Posh Spice, beamed with pride as he boldly sported a blazer with the team’s logo emblazoned across it.

Cutting a typically dapper appearance, the Leytonstone native tied in his smart jacket with a crisp white shirt, a striped tie and dark trousers.

Victoria ensured she didn’t like her man down in the fashion stakes as she nailed business chic in a corduroy trousers, a pale blue blouse and a green patterned blazer styled as a cape.

Aspiring photographer Brooklyn – who put on a loved-up display with his partner of five months – cheered on his famous father on Instagram as he penned: ‘So proud of you dad’, alongside two heart emojis.

Cruz followed in his older brother’s footsteps as he shared: ‘So excited for you dad, I’m so proud of you and I love you so much @davidbeckham @intermiamifc’, while Romeo added: ‘Good luck dad’.

‘Congrats mate on getting to game 1 ! Let’s go @intermiamicf ! So excited for you @davidbeckham’, restaurateur Gordon, 53, also wrote on his widely-followed account.

David’s project seemed almost doomed to failure with the inability to find a suitable stadium site almost killing the dream before it began.

Thankfully, with the introduction into the ownership group of local construction magnates the Mas brothers, all the political red-tape has been navigated.

The plans to move into a $1bn business park and sports complex remain in flux but are top of that particular agenda.

‘We are just thrilled to be at this point,’ David recently admitted, clearly enthused at the prospect of battles on the pitch, rather than the courtroom, to help occupy his time.

He also revealed that he ‘didn’t realise how big a challenge it was going to be’ to establish Inter Miami as the latest club in Major League Soccer.

The co-owner and president, speaking at the 2020 MLS launch on Wednesday, reflected on the difficulties he faced in getting to this point but remained adamant that he never once considered giving up.

‘It has been a long journey. But I always knew it would be worth it,’ he said.

‘I had a long and successful career in the game but I have always loved a challenge. I didn’t realise how big a challenge it was going to be. It took longer than I thought.

‘There were moments when I thought this might not happen, but there wasn’t a moment when I said I would walk away.’

Inter Miami are one of two MLS expansion teams being added for the 2020 season with Nashiville SC the other, taking the total number in the league to 26.

The process in getting everything sorted for the first game has dominated David’s time and he admitted he has learned about himself in the process.

‘I’m more persistent than I thought I was,’ he added. ‘And I’m more stubborn than my wife thinks I am.’

Having launched to much fanfare, Inter Miami are now said to be preparing big-money offers for both Luka Modric and Edinson Cavani as the new franchise starts life in the MLS.

It has been claimed the club are prepared to offer Modric a ‘dizzying salary’ that will double his current deal with Real Madrid.

Last January Beckham joined his Manchester United ‘Class of 92’ team-mates by taking a stake in non-league side Salford City.

Rival club Los Angeles FC, the first side to face Inter Miami in their home stadium, is widely considered as one of the most dangerous teams of the last campaign who won the Supporters Shield – given to the best record in the normal season – before falling short in the play-off’s.

Carlos Vela, formerly of Arsenal, scored 34 goals last year and was named the League’s top player.

For Miami, with just two friendlies and some behind-closed-doors matches to use as preparation, their MLS journey is a step into the unknown.
