As a university student, Callum Roberts had never been abroad, but after he spent a summer helping map the unknown reefs of Saudi Arabia, he was hooked. 

Now professor of marine conservation at the University of York and a top oceanographer (and adviser on Blue Planet II), he recalls a career spent researching the ecosystems under threat from global warming and pollution. 

Despite the destruction of these corals by humans, he is hopeful that there is still time to save them.
