‘It’s outrageous!’ Today host Karl Stefanovic blasts Cody Simpson for LA accent

‘It’s outrageous!’ Today host Karl Stefanovic blasts Cody Simpson for an ‘un-Australian’ habit he picked up while living in Los Angeles

Karl Stefanovic roasted his friend Cody Simpson for his American accent during a lighthearted interview on the Today show on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old singer, who was speaking live via satellite from Hollywood, has a slight Californian twang after a decade living in the United States.

And Karl wasn’t about to let him off the hook, telling him it was ‘outrageous’ that a Gold Coast boy should lose his native accent.

Cody’s trans-Pacific accent was first noticed by Karl’s co-host, Allison Langdon.

‘Just listening to that accent of yours, Cody, it’s a real mishmash of… you’ve spent too long in the States, my friend!’ she said.

‘I’ve been here too long, I’ve got to come home,’ he responded, looking rather embarrassed.

Karl added cheekily: ‘It’s outrageous! It’s un-Australian, Cody!’

Of course, Karl was only joking. He and Cody are good friends and even work out at the gym together when they’re both in Sydney.

The Golden Thing hitmaker moved to the U.S. in 2010 to launch his music career when he was just 12 years old.

He graduated high school in Atlanta in 2014 and now lives in Los Angeles with his girlfriend, Miley Cyrus.
