Cassandra Thorburn is launching a podcast for Channel SEVEN about getting divorced

Karl Stefanovic is bracing for embarrassment after his ex-wife, Cassandra Thorburn, signed a deal with Seven West Media to host a podcast series about divorce and separation.

While the podcast is not about Stefanovic and Thorburn’s split specifically, it’s believed she will allude to their 2016 break-up during the series titled Divorce Story.

The former journalist, 48, announced the launch of the podcast on Monday, telling her Instagram followers it will consist of ‘informative’ discussions with legal and relationship experts.

Today show host Karl ended his 21-year marriage with Cassandra in 2016, and has since remarried to shoe designer Jasmine (née Yarbrough) – who is expecting a child in the coming months.

Casandra and Karl share three children together: Jackson, 20, River, 12, and Ava, 14.

Divorce Story: Surviving Separation had been commissioned by New Idea Magazine, which is owned by Nine’s rival, Seven West Media’s publishing division, Pacific.

The Australian claimed on Monday that Karl’s ex-wife would talk about the grief surrounding her own divorce and if she has begun dating again.

They also suggested Cassandra would ‘tell her side of the story’, which she has hit back at, clarifying: ‘The podcast will be an informative divorce chat with experts… despite The Australian falsely reporting otherwise.’

In quotes to the newspaper, the mother-of-three said: ‘Going through one [a divorce] myself, I realised it’s still a fairly taboo subject, considered negative, and information had to be self-gathered much of the time.’

She also revealed divorce was ‘in the top two most traumatic life events’ a person could go through.

Speaking to New Idea ahead of the podcast launch this week, Cassandra admitted: ‘Having been through a divorce, the biggest grief to deal with is the end of the marriage… It was a majority of my adult life. You have to grieve that.’

While she went on to say she’s going to use the podcast to ‘take control’ over her story, Cassandra added: ‘No [I won’t be talking about myself], but some of the questions I ask no doubt come from the experience that I had.’

‘I’d tell myself that I’m enough – we’re all enough. Don’t expend energy wondering why something happened. Focus your energy on what you can control in your life.’

More than three years after splitting from his ex-wife, Cassandra, Karl spoke out about the drama surrounding their split on 3AW in January.

The 45-year-old reinstated Today show host said he couldn’t understand why there was so much public interest surrounding his split.

‘I thought, hang on, a lot of people go through [divorce], why is mine such a big deal?’ he told the program.

‘I still don’t know why it was, but I got divorced, I did find love again, and I’m sorry if people are offended by that, but it’s made me really happy.’

Karl’s reputation plummeted after he split from Cassandra and went public with now-wife Jasmine, a former model-turned-shoe designer, who is 10 years his junior.

Karl and Jasmine began dating in late 2016, just months after he had separated from Cassandra following 21 years of marriage.

In December, Karl and Jasmine celebrated their one-year anniversary after tying the knot in 2018 at Mexico’s five-star One&Only Palmilla resort.

They are due to welcome their first child together in May.
