TALK OF THE TOWN: Did singer Duffy’s kidnap and rape ordeal take place when she went to live ‘off-grid’ in the US?

The world was appalled last week when singer Duffy bravely revealed details of a shocking kidnap ordeal, during which she was raped.

Now there is speculation that the terrifying incident may have taken place when she went to live ‘off-grid’ in the US.

Recalling Duffy’s response when her second album bombed in 2010, Hannah Jones, who works in a restaurant in Duffy’s hometown in Wales, said: ‘We all heard she was going through a tough time and that her record label had dropped her.

‘All we knew is that she moved to Nashville and started singing with bands in bars there. She cut ties with everyone in about 2012.’

Duffy, 35, revealed in a social media post that she had been recovering over the past decade.

Sting’s son Joe Sumner has an interesting take on the modern obsession with treating men and women exactly the same.

The 43-year-old musician whose mother is Sting’s first wife, actress Frances Tomelty, and his wife Kate Finnerty are expecting their fourth child, and Joe took to social media to report: ‘I just sent my seven-month pregnant wife up a 20ft ladder to change the smoke-alarm battery because I passionately believe in gender equality and not at all because I was terrified of doing it myself.’

Who said that chivalry was dead?

But word reaches me that the wedding could be taking place in faraway Japan. Katy, 35, and Orlando, 43, holidayed there in November.

Hopefully the wedding will help Katy forget the vitriolic reaction to her being made a British Asian Trust ambassador by Prince Charles last month.

Trolls mocked her lack of connection to Britain or British Asians – despite Charles’s praise for her charity work.
